With his daughter in jail, relations between M Karunanidhi and ally Sonia Gandhi have soured to such an extent that the DMK patriarch is unlikely to meet the Congress president during his visit to New Delhi on Monday. "I will go to Delhi (to meet Kanimozhi) but I may not get an opportunity to meet C

ongress president Sonia Gandhi," Karunanidhi, who usually meets Gandhi when in the capital, told mediapersons here. The former Tamil Nadu chief minister had earlier ignored Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's invite for a dinner he hosted on Sunday night to mark the second anniversary of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.
“The situation is not how you think it is,” Karunanidhi said when asked about his party’s relations with the Congress.
Karunanidhi is likely to arrive in Delhi on Monday morning and return the same evening. He will meet his daughter and DMK MP Kanimozhi, now lodged in Tihar Jail, where a special Delhi court sent her on Friday in the 2G scam case.
He is also expected to consult legal experts on how soon he can secure a bail for her.
Kanimozhi is a stakeholder in the family-owned Kalaignar TV, which is allegedly one of the beneficiaries of the 2G spectrum scam money.
The TV channel is alleged to have received R200 crore from 2G scam-tainted DB Realty. On Saturday, Karunanidhi said his daughter had become a victim of "vengeful conspirators".
"I had compelled Kanimozhi to become a shareholder in Kalaignar TV. Although she did not relish the idea, she accepted it only to satisfy me. She is innocent," he said.
Her arrest, he said, showed there was a vendetta against his family and party. "There is vendetta against the DMK from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari," he said. However, the DMK patriarch said he was confident of winning the "final war".
